At some level of government, (yet to be determined by Congressional investigation) it was thought that law enforcement could bust Mexican cartel leaders thru illegal gun runners. Sadly, Border Patrol agent Brian Terry lost his life in the line of duty during a gun battle involving one of those smuggled weapons. Over 1000 guns from this sting operation are still missing.
